I’m planning a business trip to Los Angeles and decided to check out Zipcar, because they’re getting a lot of publicity and appearing in magazines I read, so I thought what the heck, I’ll check them out. All I have to say really is “Wow” they’re double what it would cost you to rent a car and on top of that, you have to pay a $50 membership fee and a $25 application fee, before you even use the car! That’s $75 bones out of your pocket, before you even see the car, and they charge $9 an hour or $66 a day. No thank you, I can rent a car on average for $34 a day, yes “A Day” with unlimited miles. Click here for the sign up page and rates.

Now I understand why they have most of their lots for the cars at Universities, they’re catering to college kids that most likely don’t have a car or car insurance or a place to park the car anyway, but this is not the case for the majority of the working class or the rest of the population.

My advice, go with the typical rental car.
